Today, we’re excited to reveal the bold new identity for Motor City Designworks, a St. Clair Shores-based interior design firm that blends a welcoming and approachable shop a with high-end luxury feel.
A Business in Motion
Katie Dum’s journey into the world of interior design is a testament to passion and persistence. After years of working in business and running a distribution center, she made the leap in 2019—leaving it behind to pursue a degree in interior design. After working for a kitchen and bath showroom, where she continued to grow her expertise, Katie decided to venture out on her own and started Motor City Designworks. Now, with the perfect showroom space available, she’s taking the next big step: opening her own storefront.
Motor City Designworks is all about making beautiful, functional spaces accessible. Katie brings her clients a balance of approachability and expertise, offering both affordable design solutions and luxury interiors that feel inviting rather than intimidating.
The Logo
The new Motor City Designworks logo is a nod to both Detroit’s industrial roots and the creative spirit of interior design. Here’s how we brought Katie’s vision to life:
Vintage Inspiration – We leaned into retro gas station aesthetics, drawing from Motor City’s automotive history while maintaining a sleek, modern feel.
Bold & Balanced – The symmetrical MCDW monogram serves as a strong icon on its own and doubles as a versatile pattern that can be used across marketing materials, adding a unique and cohesive branding element.
Classic Meets Contemporary – A clean black-and-white logo keeps things timeless and professional, while a soft neutral color palette provides warmth and flexibility for her website, flyers, and promotional materials.
Versatility: We developed circle, horizontal, and stacked lock ups, in addition to icons and a pattern for a well rounded suite that will work in every application you could need.
A Showroom with a Vision
Motor City Designworks is more than a kitchen and bath showroom—it’s a place where people can feel at ease, inspired, and confident in their design choices. Katie’s goal is to create a space that is welcoming, not overwhelming—where every client, whether tackling a small refresh or a luxury renovation, feels at home.
With a brand identity that reflects both her down-to-earth approach and her refined eye for design, Motor City Designworks is ready to make its mark.
